Ioan Dorian Dobricean

I’m a developer at Eau de Web, and I’ve been working in web development for the past 5 years, mainly in the Plone and Volto ecosystem.

During this time, I’ve been involved in building and maintaining complex web applications, where security, performance, and maintainability are critical — especially in enterprise and content-heavy systems.

Recently, I’ve also been exploring how AI tools are changing the way we write code, from generating components and APIs to helping with debugging and architecture decisions. This shift is incredibly powerful, but it also introduces new risks that are easy to overlook.

In this talk, I want to connect my day-to-day experience in Plone/Volto development with the emerging reality of AI-assisted coding, and explore what it means for application security when parts of your codebase are generated or influenced by AI.

AI is rapidly changing how we build websites and applications. Developers can now generate components, APIs, configuration files, tests, infrastructure code, and complete features in seconds. But faster development can also mean faster introduction of security vulnerabilities.

The European Environment Agency has run on Plone for 20 years and on Volto since 2019. Today the EEA website depends on 64 Volto add-ons, more than one thousand GitHub repositories, and a CI/CD pipeline spanning Jenkins, Docker Hub, and Rancher. Last year the site was still on Volto 17. Now we're targeting Volto 19 and the jump is not small.
