Prompt, Paste, Publish? Rethinking Volto’s HTML Block for the AI Era

Volto’s HTML block makes it possible to add custom markup and third-party embeds, but AI design-to-code tools are changing what users expect from this feature. A Figma design or screenshot can now become HTML and CSS in seconds—but generated code is not automatically safe, accessible, responsive, or maintainable. In this talk, I will examine the current HTML block and demonstrate an experimental custom-component workflow for Volto. Starting from a visual design, I will use AI to generate a component, add it to Volto, preview it at multiple screen sizes, and publish a sanitized result. The prototype explores separate HTML and CSS editing, isolated styles, sanitization feedback, accessibility checks, and the safe handling of interactive code. The goal is not to let arbitrary code run inside a website or to replace developers. It is to explore how Volto can safely shorten the path from visual design to reusable web components. Attendees will leave with a practical understanding of the opportunities, risks, and necessary guardrails involved in AI-assisted block creation.
